Bhimkund, located on the border of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Odisha, is a sacred natural gorge on the river Baitarani. According to legend, it is associated with the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, where Bhima is believed to have taken a holy dip, giving the site its name. The gorge forms a deep, crystal-clear blue pool surrounded by rocky cliffs, making it both a spiritual and scenic destination. Every year during Makar Sankranti, thousands of devotees gather here to take a ritual bath, believing it to be purifying. Bhimkund is thus revered as a site of faith, history, and natural beauty.
